Pre & Post Care

Protect your Investment

All services are considered tattoos regardless of method used and are referred to as such below.

A tattoo is anything that punctures the skin to implant pigment and where slight bleeding is expected. Though microblading uses a non motorized tool with needles on the end to deposit ink in the skin versus a motorized tattoo machine, it is still considered a tattoo. Any other technicians saying otherwise are ill informed or using incorrect and misleading advertising jargon like “semi permanent.” Any technician that tells you not to get your tattoo and permanent makeup wet or clean it for days is wrong and it is unfortunately a popular misconception among technicians who were not informed correctly by their training programs due to lack of regulation in many states.

I.E. They don’t know what they’re talking about, and I do! :) So please listen to my care instructions.

Pre Care for all tattoos

  • For eyeliner, no lash extensions or contacts can be in at your appt.

  • Brow tinting should be done at least 3 days prior to your appointment if you wish for your brow tattoo to be matched to your brow tint.

  • General waxing or brow shaping should be done at least 2 days before your appointment.

  • If unsure of your natural eyebrow shape, let your hair grow fully in and then I will shape them accordingly upon your approval. If you are confident with your brow shaping, then just leave it as you typically have it.

  • Avoid tanning 2 weeks prior to your appointment.

  • Clients can not move forward with the tattoo with a sunburn, flaking skin, blemishes or rash in the area to be tattooed. In this case, email us at least 12 hours prior to your appointment to reschedule.

  • If you are or have been on antibiotics within the last 2 weeks, email us at least 12 hours prior to your appointment to reschedule. I can not tattoo you on antibiotic without the risk of a possible adverse reaction.

  • All facials & skin treatments (peel, laser, micro needling, etc.) must be done at least 4 weeks prior to your appointment.

  • Botox & fillers should be done at least 2 weeks prior to your appointment.

  • Stop using retinol, vitamin A, glycolic acids, & exfoliants 2 weeks prior to your appointment.

  • Avoid alcohol, ibuprofen or any medication that thins the blood 48 hours prior to your appointment.

  • Please have eaten, stay well hydrated and moisturize your skin a week leading up to your appointment for best results.

After Care

  • Wash the area before you go to bed and apply Afterinked aftercare lotion or a restorative lotion. If you lose the lotion I give you, you’ll want something that doesn’t have harsh ingredients like a lot of alcohol or fragrance so unscented or lightly scented lotion is ideal.

  • Then for the next 2 weeks, wash the area morning and night and apply lotion 3-5 times a day.

  • Keep area out of direct sun, no swimming in pools or sea water, or soak area in a bath or hot tub. ( you can use the waterproof dermashield bandages if you do find yourself swimming. I recommend Recovery Dermshield.)

  • The tattooed area will peel and flake or “crust” similar to a mild sunburn. Do not pick, scrape, or harsh exfoliate them. Anything that comes off with regular washing them is fine, just don’t try to pick up more essentially.

  • About halfway through the second week, the tattooed area may appear slightly “milky” looking and also have a shiny sheen to it. This is normal and more obvious in some skin types than others. It means it’s still healing and the skin is rebuilding.

  • Depending on client age, health, possible medication contradictions, it may take up to 4 weeks for the area to fully heal.

  • If the tattooed area doesn’t heal and improve along the timeline and there are signs of infection, talk to your medical provider. Some signs of infection are:

    • advanced redness in the area of the wound, particularly if it spreads or forms a red streak.

    • pus forming around or oozing from the wound.

    • fever.

After your tattoo is healed

  • Botox, Fillers, Waxing, tinting, lamination or brow shaping can be done 4 weeks after your appointment.

  • Glycolic acid, retinol, AHA’s, face peels, and laser resurfacing/hair removal are advised to be kept away from the tattooed area as continued use could cause premature fading or alter the color of the tattoo.

  • Sun will fade tattoos over time. Keep area from sun exposure and use SPF for best long lasting results.

  • Keep your skin healthy and moisturized on the daily for best results. Your tattoo will only look as good as your skin does!
